He was the president during the time in which we depict Fort Mackinac (1881-1885). And apparently he changed his pants several times a day; he owned over 80. Not sure why, but whatever. He never saw Garfield until the day Garfield was shot. He also destroyed all his personal papers before he died, sooooo...maybe we'll just never know about him!
